All the main talking points from Sebastian, at today’s media sessions in Spielberg, ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix.
Red Bull: “I obviously know the team very, very well from my past. Of course I’m still in contact with a lot of people there, whether it’s Christian, Helmut or others. The appearance on Servus TV had nothing to do with that or a potential future. They are a very strong team, I know how strong they are from the past. I know why they were strong back then, and they are still a contender. It’s a car that you can win races in, so for sure that would be interesting. As I said, it’s a winning car, and as I said earlier, I’m here to compete and here to win. So probably the answer would be yes [if they offered me a seat].”
Racing Point/Aston Martin: “I think Racing Point left a very strong impression and are certainly in a good place for this year. I know part of the team, I know some members of the team quite well from from my past and for a long time so I think it’s obviously a good opportunity for them this year to have a good car to fight with and try and improve that from there.”
Talks with Renault: “Yes I did, but obviously at no point concrete enough, or fundamental talks or real talks. As you’ve seen as well, they’ve gone a different direction. It doesn’t change much for me. It really depends on my decision, which I’m not pressured to take in the next couple of days. I want to take the time that I need to decide.”
Everything is open for the future: “Everything is an option at the moment. Carry on, have a break, or retire. It’s not a secret that I am competitive. I have achieved so much in this sport, and I’m interested in achieving more, not just taking part. We’ll see what happens, and then take it from there.”
Upgrades & the upcoming race: “We don’t know how long the season will be. But for sure it will be a good indication for us to see if it’s the right direction for us or not. I think you always have certain expectations, but the best answer is the stopwatch when you get on track. Obviously one is what we feel, and the other one is the times we are clocking. So we are excited about it and obviously interesting to see in direct comparison to last weekend where we will end up. I think it’s a massive opportunity for us to have the race held at exactly the same place. So I hope we will get some answers.”
Issues from last weekend: “We had a close look to my race performance in particular which was off compared to the weekend up to that point. We have found a couple of things. It’s hard to say how much difference those things were making, we had an issue with the brake, maybe something with the damping of the car. I’m excited about getting back on track and seeing how the car feels. I think I have a very good memory first of all, I think I have a good idea how it feels, I think I have a good memory of how it use to feel when everything was right, and how it felt then in the race. So tomorrow will be an important day in the regard, but also in regards to the upgrade to see if everything is bringing the step that we are expecting.”
