On a very cold day today in Barcelona, Sebastian Vettel has successfully completed his first testing day of 2018. He finished the session on the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:19.673, having completed almost 100 laps – 98! Sebastian’s time is the best of both testing days so far in Barcelona.
Here’s what Seb had to say after finishing today’s session:
“It’s very cold, so I think the most important, if you look at the table we did (almost) 100 laps, considering that it was also snowing, at the end of the day it’s okay. But it was very difficult to get the tyres to work. I think everyone was struggling with the same issues. Not the conditions that we normally run.
“I think the car is working, we didn’t have any problems. Reliability wise everything is making sense, it seems we’ve made a step forward. In terms of performance, I don’t know yet. But in terms of general operation, everything is really smooth. It’s good to come here switch on the car and be able to run.
“It’s difficult to say at this point. There are too many major things that make impossible to compare this year’s car to last year. I think we should not get into detail too much because it’s a bit point less. I think the next two days will be much better and next week will be normal (weather wise).
“First of all, we try to understand the car, that’s the most important for the test – to make sure we do some important laps, a lot of mileage. That’s the key right now. Then later we can focus on performance.”
