Vettel: It’s disappointing, because it could have been a better result

Sebastian Vettel: “First of all, I think that today the car was very good. The pace was strong in the race. I think you could see that we were losing a bit here and there, but overall it was a good race. It was a very busy start, and Vallteri was very aggressive. As for what happened at the restart from the safety car, I don’t know why I got the penalty and Lewis didn’t. It’s disappointing, because it could have been a better result. I don’t have a problem with Lewis but I just think that what he did on the track was not ok and that’s what I told him also. By now the decision is done but, in an episode like this one, I still think that if you give out a penalty, then it should be to both drivers.”

  1. Agree completely Seb, but I think that F1 have got an issue with race control that requires to be investigated. In today’s Grand Prix there were a number of penalties that were handed out to Ferrari & its associated teams, while none were given against Mercedes. It clearly leaves F1 open to being accused of bias towards Mercedes. The 10 second penalty stop/go penalty against yourself seemed very harsh when the were was no evidence of dangerous driving as he appeared to be trying to out break you when you ran into the back of him & your hands were off the steering wheel when you were alongside him so were not in control of your car. It could also be argued that you would be in danger of damaging your own car &, therefore, asked the question ‘why would put your own car at risk?’. My other question is ‘would your stop/go penalty have been given if Hamilton had still been in the lead?’.
